Hammer don't play that

According to Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story:
- MC Hammer and the owner of the Oakland A's were tight friends.
- MC Hammer used to rap while preaching. His wife told him he should start making music if that is what he wants to do most.
- MC Hammer recorded his first album in what looked like a wet suit.
- MC Hammer, while a bat boy for the aforementioned A's, said God told him he was going to be big-time during a three-run homer.
- MC Hammer was with Tupac the night he got shot, but sensed something sinister and decided to stay in for the night. Hammer could've been hurt that night.
- MC Hammer recorded a song that repeatedly said, "We like girls with pumps and a bump, pumps and a bump, pumps and a bump!"
- During the video for the song mentioned above, MC Hammer was wearing a speedo.
- Said video was recorded at MC Hammer's house.

i also want to point out that (according to the show) the creation of "hammer-pants" came about as a pracical/logical solution to pants that were too tight to dance effectively in. hammer's wife whipped them up one night before going to a club. i thought that was pretty amazing.

To add to that, when Hammer walked into the club that night, a lot of his fellow club-goers shouted things like, "Hey, man, you got somethin' in your pants!"
If only they knew that they were seeing history...

Please. EVERYONE likes girls in pumps and a bump.

Now they do, but before 1996 it was unheard of.

The pumps and a bump scene is priceless.

Reminds me of Poulains, which, if you've read the latest Mental Floss, were invented to help (ahem) small men look bigger.

Catholic officials said the plagued was retribution for their popularity.

Perhaps MC's dissappearance from "the scene" was retribution for those pants.

kristin,
i believe they were "one-hour pants". otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to make them in time for him to go to the club that night.

if you're interested, i have the pattern. (or did you borrow it?)

I had a pair of pants like Hammer's. No sh**.

Great story, regardless of it's accuracy, although Shuga isn't prone to elaborations....

Where are the puppets we were sewing that one time Lisa? I want my "charity" puppet to wear Hammer-pants.

lisa said...

yes, come make your charity puppet some hammer-pants! i think the tiny size will only take 1/2 hour! plus, i think those poor kids in ecuador or wherever will REALLY get a kick out of it!

I can't see Lisa as a blogger.

SJ- Do you subscribe to Mental Floss? What do you do with your old copies?
